DU and CWA with an important plea for California Rice Farmers

Ducks Unlimited, working with the California Waterfowl Association, recently sent an informational flyer out to rice farmers in the Golden State asking for their assistance this fall in helping create wetlands. In a normal year, many rice farmers flood their fields after harvest, which creates wetland habitat for waterfowl up and down the Central Valley. With the current drought, many will not be flooding, which could prove a problem for the birds coming south. DU and and CWA understand the pressure rice farmers are under, especially with the lack of water, and are asking those that can to treat their fields as if they were receiving decomposition water by not over-treating the land after harvest and installing boards to collect water in the event that rains do hit the valley.
