According to the SF Chronicle, California water regulators adopted a plan Tuesday to increase protections for California’s wetlands. You can read more about it here.
Ducks Unlimited issued the following response to the plan:
“Ducks Unlimited applauds the efforts of the California State Water Resources Control Board to create a policy that will offer increased protections for California’s wetlands, more than 90 percent of which have been lost due to development and other activities. However, as the world leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation, Ducks Unlimited remains concerned that this new policy will increase the cost and time required for permitting beneficial and voluntary wetland restoration and enhancement projects and thereby discourage landowners from participating in voluntary conservation programs. This could ultimately result in a reduced amount of on-the-ground conservation accomplishments in California.”
