Ducks Unlimited was recognized on Wednesday at the California Rice Commission’s Circle of Life Reception as one of 14 conservation groups, water districts and agencies that works with the rice industry to help wildlife during the drought. DU and the CRC have long teamed together to tout the benefits of flooded rice fields for migrating waterfowl along the Pacific Flyway, which provides habitat in a state where over 90 percent of the natural wetland habitat is gone.

The Circle of Life Reception is an annual event that attracts media and supporters alike to spotlight the value of California rice to both wildlife and humans, complete with great food and a sushi rolling contest. DU’s Western Region Director of Operations Mark Biddlecomb accepted the award on behalf of DU at Sacramento’s Sheraton Grand Hotel.
