DU Volunteers in Idaho take part in banding event

The Idaho Fish and Game recently worked with DU volunteers in Idaho to trap and band waterfowl at the Schlepp easement, which DU has been restoring for the last seven years. North Idaho District Chairman Martin Munoz and members of the Silver Valley Chapter, including some eager youngsters, took time out of their weekend to help with the process, and as evidenced by the pictures, were extremely successful.
According to the USFWS, biologists band more than 200,000 ducks and nearly 150,000 geese and swans in North America each year, which is used to estimate annual harvest rates and even annual survival rates for some waterfowl species via recovery data.
