Ducks Unlimited to work in Washington’s Guemes Valley

Over the next year, DU will partner with the San Juan Preservation Trust and the Skagit Land Trust to design wetland enhancements, thanks in part to a $22,500 grant from the Rose Foundation. Ducks Unlimited will be responsible for the survey, engineering design, project budget, wetland delineation, and biological design for the two restoration sites: the Guemes Valley on Guemes Island and the Richardson Marsh on Lopez Island. During this time, DU and/or another partner will seek funding for implementation.

The primary goal of this project is to improve water quality by enhancing approximately 100 acres of wetlands which will also increase ground water recharge. Wetland enhancements increase its ability to hold and filter water into the soil. Water filtered through wetlands improve water-quality by removing sediments.
