Thank you for helping Ducks Unlimited fight back against SB 53 in California

The following letter was sent to California DU members this morning:

Brian Jones AssemblymanDear DU Supporter,

The photo below says a lot with few words, displaying all of the letters Assemblyman Brian Jones (R- San Diego) received in opposition to SB 53. Assemblyman Jones held this picture up on the last night of session during an impassioned debate about the proposed measure and its unintended consequences to the sportsmen’s community in California.

As you probably have heard by now, the bill failed on the Assembly floor the last night of session at 3 a.m. when the author simply could not find the votes to pass the measure after being on call for five hours. This in and of itself is notable because it is very rare for a measure authored by a Democrat in a Democrat-controlled legislature to not make its way through the process to the Governor.

Ducks Unlimited members generated over 1,600 unique letters and contacts to members of the California Legislature and the Governor. That is an impressive turnout, and we hope to build on our success the next time as well! I hope that this email leaves you with the recognition that your efforts CAN help us succeed and make a difference, and that we are very thankful for your membership and passion about protecting our sporting heritage in the great state of California.

If you have any question, comments, or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me in the Western Region Office at msmith@ducks.org or 916-852-2000.

Thanks for all you do to help support habitat conservation and our hunting heritage.

In conservation,

Mark Smith
