Drought-plagued California finally received some substantial rain over Thanksgiving week, with even more precipitation and snow predicted this week. All of which is good news of course for the waterfowl who call the Central Valley home in the winter and are constantly looking for sources of food that the rain can provide in places like rice fields.

Rain and snow will fall across much of California over the next few days, bringing “badly needed moisture for a drought-stricken region,” National Weather Service meteorologist David Hamrick said Monday.
Heavy rain is likely at times, with some areas in the state receiving more than 2 inches of rain by Wednesday morning, Hamrick said.
Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento and Fresno could all receive more than an inch of rain from this storm, AccuWeather said.
The precipitation is very welcome since 80% of the state is in extreme or exceptional drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, a federal website that tracks drought.
